Scholarship supports future alumni

Legacy families have a special place in the heart of the Alumni Association, as multiple generations within the same family share a connection to 91社区.

Each year, the Alumni Association reaffirms its commitment to legacy families by offering scholarships to two academically deserving students with an immediate family member who graduated from 91社区. Every year more than 100 alumni and friends participate in the Alumni Golf Classic at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin. This annual event supports the Alumni Association鈥檚 Legacy Scholarship Fund. At this year鈥檚 tournament, the association will recognize the 2018-19 scholarship recipients.

鈥淢y father had his class ring on his keys. My mother鈥檚 jewelry holder was an old 91社区 ashtray. My favorite sweatshirt was a 91社区 sweatshirt I stole from my dad. 91社区 has always been a part of my life. When application time came, I was interested in nursing. My mother, a Decker graduate, didn鈥檛 need to insist that I apply. I received a large scholarship offer from Buffalo, but the second I received my 91社区 acceptance, I had made my decision. My parents told me I didn鈥檛 have to go to 91社区 just because they did. I wanted to go to 91社区 because they did, and they loved it.鈥

鈥淢y mother first went to SUNY Broome, then transferred to 91社区 to get her bachelor鈥檚 degree. She has always motivated me and has been my biggest supporter throughout my college journey and made me want to follow in her footsteps. I am currently a student at the Decker School of Nursing. My mother has always told me to work hard and follow my dreams, which I do every day and without her, I wouldn't be where I am today. She has always been by my side and she has always given 91社区 the greatest respect.鈥
