Biography

Tan Chen joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science in 2026. Before joining 91社区, he served for four years as an assistant professor at Michigan Technological University. 

His research interests include robotics, nonlinear geometric control, machine learning, and dynamical systems, with a particular focus on legged and humanoid robots for applications in space exploration, industry, agriculture, and healthcare. 

He is a recipient of the ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award and the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship. Before beginning his faculty career, Tan was a postdoctoral research associate affiliated with the Coordinated Science Laboratory (CSL) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he worked on an industrial collaborative-robotics project.
