Biography

Yizeng Li received an MS in Mathematics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute for NanoBioTechnology at Johns Hopkins University. Her interdisciplinary background spans theoretical mechanics, applied mathematics, and biophysics, with a strong focus on mechanobiology and cell biology. 

Li develops physiology-based mathematical models to investigate cell motility, polarization, volume regulation, electro-homeostasis, signal transduction, and other integrated biophysical processes. Complementing her computational and theoretical work, she uses cell-based assays and quantitative experimental approaches to test hypotheses and interrogate cellular mechanisms. By integrating mathematical modeling with hands-on experimentation and experimental data, she aims to uncover and explain non-intuitive phenomena in biophysics.
