Early Intervention Therapy

91ÉçÇø's Division of Speech and Language Pathology offers the Early Intervention Parent program, which provides speech and language therapy services for children under 3 with speech and language delays.

Therapy information

Early intervention speech and language therapy services are essential for developing and optimizing a child’s overall well-being, promoting successful communication and laying the foundation for lifelong learning, social interactions and academic success. Early intervention services are imperative in proactively addressing concerns and empowering caregivers to play an active role in their child’s progress during the critical development period.  

Sessions

  • Group sessions are held once a week for 6–7 weeks

  • Sessions last approximately 60 minutes

  • Group sessions include the child and the caregiver 

  • Children will engage in a play group targeting early language and literacy skills guided by developmental milestones through play-based therapy, book reading, songs and direct intervention

  • Families and caregivers will receive direct training by a licensed SLP and clinical educator in a group setting to learn skills and strategies to support and promote language acquisition at home and in the community 

  • All services are by appointment only

Instructor

Marisa Mooney, MS, CCC-SLP, is a clinical instructor in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology at 91ÉçÇø's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where she teaches and supervises graduate and undergraduate SLP students. Her areas of expertise are early intervention,  parent and caregiver education, and language and literacy development. She is certified by The Hanen Centre to provide It Takes Two to Talk®, The Hanen Program® for parents of children with language delays.

91ÉçÇø's Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic is in the University's JC Center, 10 University Blvd. (formerly Gannett Dr.), in Johnson City, N.Y.
