Job Summary:

The Office of the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (OVP) supports the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives to facilitate a welcoming and respectful campus climate encompassing all individuals and groups, as well as social, cultural, political, religious and other affiliations. The office is committed to respecting human diversity in our learning and working environments and creating an atmosphere where prejudice, harassment and discrimination are unacceptable.  The Graduate Assistant (OVP GA) will work within a collaborative team dynamic on marketing and communications projects and collaborate and assist with research and assessment. The OVP GA will gain experience in communications, cultural competency, project management, social justice and diversity awareness. The successful candidate should be passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. The OVP GA will report to the Vice President and divisional communications manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and data analysis
  • Assist with conducting assessments, research best DEI practices (e.g., review of current and seminal literature) and benchmark surveys from other sources. 
  • Prepare and present presentations about topics assigned by the Vice President
  • Develop and maintain a social media calendar for the division and OVP
  • Work with the communications manager to identify high-value content for various communication streams
  • Photograph events happening within the division
  • Attend and participate in regular supervision and staff meetings 
  • Attend conferences and educational events as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by OVP staff, as requested. 

Qualifications:

  • A passion for diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with presenting, research, data analysis and writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Experience working on or managing a social media account for a business or not-for-profit organization
  • Experience using project management software and graphic design software, such as Canva
  • Digital photography experience
  • Experience in event planning, workshop development, facilitation, and training a plus
  • Some night and weekend hours are required.
  • Preference given to students enrolled in Higher Education and Student Affairs; Sociology; Social Work, Psychology; Human Development;  Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies; MPA; and CCPA PhD students are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Term: Graduate Assistant appointment will be expected to start as early as August 15, 2024 and end as late as May 21, 2025. 

Compensation:  This assistantship includes a base stipend for the year of $11,000, paid biweekly. This position is represented by the Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU), and the stipend includes all potential union negotiated raises applicable for the academic year. This position requires twenty (20) work hours per week.
