The Q Center provides an array of resources, educational opportunities, and social justice initiatives designed to foster a campus environment that is inclusive and supportive of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. The Q Center cultivates an intersectional community for all LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff at 91社区 to challenge oppressive institutions and advocate for the collective liberation of queer-identifying individuals.
Job Summary:
The Q Center Outreach Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for maintaining the Rainbow Coalition, made up of LGBTQ+ student organizations (SHADES, RPU, oSTEM, Keshet, Transcend, and OASIS) as well as other student groups who share the mission and values of the Q Center. The GA also performs outreach on campus and within the local community to form, maintain and strengthen partnerships with various organizations. The GA will maintain the Q Center email account and coordinate communication with both aforementioned partners and anyone reaching out with questions or requests. The GA is a member of the leadership team, contributing to the Center鈥檚 mission, vision, and direction. The GA will take on one to two additional projects per semester related to the GA鈥檚 program, interest and experience level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct monthly Rainbow Coalition meetings for LGBTQ+ student leaders on campus
- Assist Rainbow Coalition members with planning and coordinating events
- Maintain the general Q Center email account
- Attend and contribute to regular Q Center leadership team meetings
- Foster relationships with on and off campus groups and organizations
- Organize and/or support large-scale annual events such as Rainbow Fest, OUTober LGBTQ+ History Month, Transgender Awareness Month, and Lavender Celebration
- Assist with care for the physical Q Center space
- Welcome students, faculty, and staff into the Q Center
- Manage operations of the Gender Bender Clothing Closet
- Coordinate and promote resources, including room and equipment reservations
- Lead general assessment of Q Center initiatives and resources
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work, particularly as it relates to the LGBTQ+ community
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Critical thinking skills
- Ability to initiate tasks and change course without direct instruction
- Must be in good academic standing for the term before selection and during the GA period
Term: Graduate assistants will be expected to start as early as August 16, 2024 and end as late as May 15, 2024.
Compensation: This assistantship includes a base stipend for the year of $11,000, paid biweekly. The Graduate Student Employees Union represents this position, and the stipend includes all potential union-negotiated raises applicable for the academic year. This position requires an average of twenty (20) work hours per week.
