All new international undergraduate students are required to have their English language skills assessed, regardless of where they have studied previously. This allows the University to have a better understanding of what new international students may need in additional English language support to be successful at 91社区.
The English Language Skills Assessment for Spring 2026 is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14. All new international undergraduate students should arrive on Monday, January 12 or Tuesday, January 13. If you are unable to take the exam on January 14, please contact eli@binghamton.edu for make-up instructions. Students who take the make-up exam may face delays in registering for classes.
Please note, there are two exams:
-
- The written exam will be from 9:00-11:00am.
- The speaking exam will be from 1:00-3:00pm. You will receive a time ticket after completing the written exam, which will tell you when to arrive for the speaking exam.
Non-native speakers of English who are permanent residents of the United States are not required to have their English language skills assessed. If you would like to take an ELI course, please contact the ELI or your academic advisor for guidance.
New international graduate students are not required to have their English language skills assessed. The ELI offers a number of courses for graduate students. Contact the ELI or your advisor for guidance on registering for these courses.
