First-Year Orientation

The information below is for our newly admitted, first-year students, who will be enrolled for Fall 2026. 

Welcome new Bearcats! Now that you鈥檝e committed to 91社区,  it's time to join us for Summer Orientation! Orientation is the best way for you to get acquainted with 91社区 before you arrive in the fall. It鈥檚 an important milestone in your college journey鈥攁 true rite of passage and the next step in becoming a Bearcat. Attending Orientation is something every new student should experience, as it marks your transition into college life and sets the foundation for your success. 

Your Orientation Experience is more than just your in-person Orientation; it encompasses many aspects that all need to be completed.

What is the Orientation 2026 Experience?

Starting in May, you will gain access to the following:

  • New Student Checklist: A convenient list of important to-do鈥檚 meant to guide you through your summer, located on Make sure to complete all the items on the checklist!
  • BUZZ Emails: Weekly emails loaded with resources and opportunities to take advantage of here at 91社区. These are sent by Admissions, so keep an eye out in your 91社区 email!
  • Orientation Session: The event of the summer; An in-person, overnight session where you will learn about campus, meet other new students, and receive information about academic advising and course registration! You will have the opportunity to meet an Orientation Advisor who is a current student as well as some of your future classmates. See dates below.
  • Academic Adivising Checklist: This Academic Adivising Checklist, additional checklist, the Orientation Checklist, available to you once you register for your Orientation session, hosts a series of digitial documents and forms designed to aid in the course registration process. These steps must be completed before your Orientation session so that your academic adivisng office can review your preferences and previous academic credit in order to pre-register you for your fall courses.
  • Virtual Academic Advising Appointment: At your Orientation session, you will hear from your academic advising offices to discuss important dates and need-to-knows related to course registration. After Orientation, you can make an online, virtual appointment to take place after your Orientation date to go over your fall semester courses.
  • New Student Move-In and Welcome Program: Our new students will move into the residence halls and participate in welcome programming. More information will be sent out about move-in throughout the summer. 

Sign up for an Orientation Session

All newly admitted students who have paid their admission deposit will have access to the New Student Checklist beginning in early May. Students will receive an email when our registration system is available. The first item to complete is to register for an Orientation session. These dates are offered throughout the months of June and July and are specific to the school to which you were admitted. Through our system you can sign up for a session date and register any family members you wish to join us for the family program.

If you do not see the New Student Checklist when you log into by May 31, contact our office so we may assist you either over the phone (607-777-2878) or through email (orientation@binghamton.edu). If you have any trouble registering for Orientation, contact our office at the phone number above for assistance.

Summer 2026 Dates

All first-year Orientation sessions take place in-person over the course of two days and students will be housed in one of 91社区's residence halls for the night of Orientation. Session dates will correspond to a student's academic college (Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science, College of Community and Public Affairs, Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences and School of Management).

Orientation Session Information

91社区 Orientation

Orientation has many programs and activities has many over two days designed specifically to answer any questions you may have as 91社区鈥檚 newest community members. You鈥檒l meet other new and current students, share experiences, learn more about your new home away from home and, most of all, relax and have fun!

In order to make the most of your time at Orientation, attending all programs and activities. The program begins with check-in at 8:30AM on the first day and concludes the second day around 12:30PM. All students will receive a detailed Orientation schedule upon checking in. Below are some highlights of the program.

Academic Advising and Course Registration

Before You Arrive at Orientation

As an incoming student you will be pre-registered for your fall 2026 classes pending the completion of online documents related to course registration. These documents and forms are designed to aid in your academic success and to assist in developing your first-semester college schedule. Visit your Academic Adivisng Checklist after you register for an Orientation session and complete it fully. 

Some students may need to take the Calculus Placement Exam or Chemistry Readiness Exam. Refer to your Academic Advising Checklist. Please note each academic college has different information and important to-do鈥檚 on the Academic Adivising Checklist.

During and After Orientation

During Orientation, you will hear from your Academic Advising office to discuss important dates and essential information related to course registration. After you attend your Orientation session you will make an academic advising appointment to review your schedule.


EOP First-Year Students

First-year students admitted to the EOP program will not attend Orientation through New Student Programs. They will attend events and the 91社区 Enrichment Summer Program (BEP) through the EOP office.

In order to attend 91社区 in the fall, students must attend one free Orientation specifically for new EOP First-year students, which will be held at  91社区 University.

Students will need to select the date that they plan to attend. Transportation to the EOP Orientation at 91社区 is provided by EOP to students living in the NYC area. There is no charge to register for the EOP Orientation and Parent/Guardian Meeting. Students must be present for the entire event.
