Getting around campus will be easier this fall as Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) introduces transit and parking enhancements designed to improve convenience and accessibility.

New Inner Loop campus shuttle route

Beginning this fall semester, the Off Campus College Transport (OCCT) Campus Shuttle will operate in both directions, with the addition of a new Campus Shuttle Inner Loop route. The new route will make stops along the inner loop of the Brain, providing more convenient transit service through the heart of campus.

The existing Campus Shuttle Outer Loop will continue to operate and will include a new weekday stop at the East Gym in Lot E.

Together, the two shuttle routes will offer more flexibility and improve access across campus by allowing riders to travel in either direction, reducing travel times, and making it easier to reach classes, residence halls, and dining locations.

"These enhancements are about making it easier for our campus community to move around the campus efficiently," said David Husch, director of transportation. "By operating shuttle service in both directions and expanding service along the inner loop of campus, we're providing more convenient travel options while improving connectivity across the University."

In addition to the new shuttle service, OCCT buses now feature destination signage that clearly identifies each route. The new signs will help riders quickly recognize the correct bus and improve wayfinding. Schedules and stop information for the fall semester are available on the  .

Parking expansions to accommodate construction closures

To address temporary parking pressure due to increased construction across campus, TAPS completed expansion projects in three campus parking lots over the summer, adding more than 120 new parking spaces.

Lot F3 gained 28 new spaces, including two ADA-accessible spaces, while lot M3 added 40 spaces. The ZZ South parking lot was expanded with 54 additional parking spaces, increasing parking availability across campus. In addition to these expansions, Lot E1 has reopened following the completion of the East Gym renovation. The lot will restore 137 parking spaces to campus, further increasing parking availability for students, faculty, and staff.

"These projects are part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the parking experience for students, faculty, and staff," said Brittany Dunst, parking operations manager. "As our campus continues to grow and construction projects impact parking availability, we're taking a proactive approach by expanding parking capacity now to help meet current demand and support future growth. By adding 120 new parking spaces across three key lots, we're improving access in high-demand areas."

TAPS closely monitors parking availability throughout campus to help drivers find open spaces more efficiently. Staff survey and count unoccupied parking spaces every two hours, Monday through Friday, and use that information to maintain a parking availability table on the TAPS website. The table highlights which parking lots typically have available spaces during the busiest times of the day and provides an average number of open spaces by time period.

Parking demand is highest during peak class hours, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. While parking is consistently available on campus, the closest lots to popular destinations may fill more quickly during those hours. The parking availability table can help drivers identify nearby lots with open spaces, and the campus shuttle provides convenient transportation from these parking lots to destinations across campus.

"Providing accurate, up-to-date information about parking availability helps our campus community make informed decisions and find the best parking options for their schedules," said Dunst. "We encourage students, faculty, and staff to use the resources available through TAPS and consider alternative transportation options when traveling to and around campus."

In addition to on-campus parking, the University offers several alternative transportation options, including OCCT, BC Transit, Enterprise CarShare and 511NY Rideshare for carpooling. Together, these services provide the campus community with flexible options for navigating campus and the surrounding area.
