The objective of the hazard communication standard, as stated in CFR 1910.1200(b), is: "to provide information to employees about the hazardous chemicals to which they are exposed, by means of a hazard communications program, labels, and other forms of warning, safety data sheets, and information and training."

To comply with the hazard communication standard the University has:

  • Prepared a written hazard communication plan. The plan is available for any employee, or their bargaining unit representative, to review in the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Decker Student Health Services Building.
  • Coordinated an inventory of chemicals and chemical products located on campus property in conjunction with the chemical users.  Safety Data Sheets (SDS) will be made available to any employee for those chemicals they may be required to work with.  Contact EH&S at 607-777-2211.
  • Established a labeling policy for all chemical containers.
  • Developed employee training which includes informing employees of their rights under the standard, the location of the written plan, and how to understand SDS's and labels.

Questions concerning the Hazard Communication Standard or the written communication plan should be directed to Environmental Health and Safety, 607-777-2211.
