Constructive Dialogue Badge Program
The Constructive Dialogue Badge equips students with the knowledge and skills to engage in constructive conversations even through disagreement. Through online and in-person training, along with a personal reflection, students will better understand the psychological and metacognitive factors that shape how and why people disagree, learn skills to engage in dialogue across differences, and how to apply these skills.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand & Define Dialogue
Students will understand the role of dialogue as a tool for mutual understanding rather than a tool to debate to win. - Explore A Values-Based Reflection
Students will explore how their values and beliefs inform their opinions and how they influence their engagement with diverse perspectives. - Learn Effective Communication Across Difference
Students will learn strategies to constructively communicate with others within and outside of the campus community. These skills include active listening, practicing curious inquiry, and strengthening emotional intelligence.
How to earn a badge:
- Complete online Perspectives Modules (6 lessons)
- Attend an in-person workshop
- Submit a short reflection on your learning

Civil Dialogue Student Ambassador Internship
The Center for Community Engagement recruits student dialogue ambassadors each academic year to receive training in facilitation, event planning, and build leadership skills. The ambassadors will work as part of the Civil Dialogue Project to foster respectful and meaningful conversations that will help students navigate challenging topics. The Civil Dialogue Project team will start accepting candidate applications for Fall 2027 positions in March 2027.
