Be sure to check your 91社区 email regularly soon after you pay your deposit and sign up for New Student Orientation. All academic advising updates and next steps are sent to your BU email.
Academic advising is one of several components of your New Student Orientation onboarding experience. Our Harpur New Student page provides a general guideline of what to expect for your academic advising experience, and a general timeline so you can plan accordingly. Be sure to follow the New Student Programs website for additional Orientation information!

First Years & Transfers
- October/November: Sign up for a Session
- Go to the New Student Checklist Card and complete all required items.
- November: Complete required Items, including:
- Registration and Advising Survey (RAS)
- Required modules on your Orientation Check-List
- If required for program, complete the Calculus Placement Exam (CPE)
- Submit all required health documents with Health Services
- Before December 1: Complete Registration and Advising Survey
- Important: Your academic advisor will use the information from your RAS to register you for spring '27 courses.
- December - January: Course Registration + Academic Advising Meeting
- Academic Advisors will use your RAS to register you for spring '27 courses.
- Students will receive an email at their BU email address with a link to schedule an appointment with an advisor
- Appointments will be available December 9 - 24, and January 3 - 13.
- Sunday, January 17: Attend your Orientation Session
- After your Advising Meeting: Complete your Post Orientation Homework on your
- October/November: Sign up for a Session
