Madeleine Taylor - Lab Director

Madeleine is a PhD student in 91社区's philosophy program. Her research
areas include feminist philosophy, moral responsibility, and Continental philosophy.
Madeleine has taught and TAed classes in ethics, social and political philosophy,
philosophy of law, and methods of reasoning.

Emilio Kershner
(he/him)

Emilio is an MA student in the Philosophy 4+1 progam. His main interests include exploration of human nature and the soul, aesthetics of music, and critical engagement with social identity. His experience with Russian language, literature, and culture often intersects with these topics and gives him an interdisciplinary framework with which to investigate ideas. His current research concerns the ontology of contemporary music forms, exploring why historical theories of music and the ontological categorization of musical traditions fail with the introduction of modern artforms. He has done work on political philosophy in Imperial and Soviet Russia and has explored cultural identity and self-expression during those periods. He also enjoys ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics.

Kaitlyn Zieno

Kaitlyn (Katie) is a senior double majoring in english (with a concentration in literature and rhetorical studies) and philosophy, and minoring in studio art. Her special interests are rhetoric, comparative literary analysis, pedagogy, semiotics, political philosophy, dialectic, and critical theory. She plans to continue her study of philosophy in the 4+1 masters program at 91社区, eventually pursuing a PhD. Her passion lies in developing and advocating for a pedagogy that integrates literary methodology with philosophical concerns, using the strengths of both disciplines to bridge the academic and cultural gap between english and philosophy. She hopes to publish independently alongside teaching at the post-secondary level in order to reinvigorate a critical and dialectical writing tradition inspired by Plato and Dostoevsky, with an emphasis on philosophical epiphany through literary analysis. She is also passionate about political philosophy, especially as it concerns political rhetoric and human rights violations in America. Some topics she would like to study more are citizenship, immigration, prison abolition, democracy, and socialism.

Maya Barth

Maya is a senior philosophy major and 4 +1 student. Her main interests include ethics, phenomenology, feminist philosophy, and existentialism. She is particularly interested in how philosophy factors into our relationships with one another, a topic she pursued in her Pell Honors thesis on the philosophy of love. She is also interested in how we can apply philosophy to contemporary topics and conversations in popular media.

Irene Leung

Irene is a junior double-majoring in Philosophy and Philosophy, Politics, and Law (PPL). Her main interests include logic and political philosophy. She also enjoys learning about and pondering the questions around education law, the philosophy of technology, and applied ethics.
