91社区鈥檚 welcomes applicants from current international exchange partners. The IEGI collects partner nominations for student exchange during two periods of study, fall/academic year and spring semester only. The application deadline for fall/academic year exchange is March 1 and the application deadline for spring semester exchange is October 1. Applicants will apply using Terra Dotta, the IEGI鈥檚 education abroad and inbound exchange software platform.
Application Instructions
- Open the email from the IEGI regarding your nomination for exchange. The email subject will be 鈥淵our nomination for exchange to 91社区鈥 and will be sent from the intlexch@binghamton.edu email address.
- Click on the hyperlinked text in that email that says, 鈥淎ccess the Inbound Exchange Student Application,鈥 which will enable you to begin our application.
- Complete all of the seven application components by the application deadline. You may do this in a single setting or over multiple periods of time. Terra Dotta will automatically save any information you input into the application items.

All exchange students will automatically be enrolled in and billed for the SUNY-required Health Insurance plan. More information can be found here.
Official Academic Transcripts
We require official academic transcripts for all completed coursework at the time of application. (Please email intlexch@binghamton.edu with a copy of courses in progress, if they are excluded from the official academic transcript.) Graduate student applicants should submit their final bachelor鈥檚 level transcript in addition to their graduate-level transcript within their application.
Passport
Please upload a high-quality image of the biographical page of your passport to your application. Apply for a passport as soon as you consider studying abroad as an exchange student, if you do not already have one.
Financial Certification
Please complete the in its entirety to attest that you possess the minimum required funds to attend 91社区 University during your exchange program at 91社区. Consult the to find this information. Fall/academic year applicants must ensure that they have selected the correct Cost Sheet for their exchange program. Nominated students from Al Akhawayn University (AUI) should subtract the Estimated Cost of Housing when showing proof of funding.
Proof of English Language Proficiency
The U.S. Department of State requires proof of English language proficiency for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, which brings hundreds of visiting international professors, researchers, and other types of short-term scholars to 91社区 every year.
U.S. Institutions must determine that prospective exchange visitors possess 鈥渟ufficient proficiency in the English language, as determined by an objective measurement of English language proficiency, successfully to participate in his or her program and to function on a day-to-day basis.鈥 [22 CFR 62.11(a)(2)]
The rule applies to all J-1 Exchange Visitors, including those from English-speaking countries and those attending English-taught universities in countries where English is not the official language.
Finally, sponsors are required to retain evidence of how they measured the applicant's English language proficiency so that it may be made available to the U.S. Department of State upon request.

- TOEFL: 80 (or 4.0 in the new scoring system)
- IELTS: 6.5
