Crime can affect anyone at any time. At 91社区, the New York State
University Police are committed to working collaboratively with our community to reduce
the opportunity for crime to occur, educating our community about crime prevention
best practices, responding to incidents of criminal behavior and providing crime information
to campus users.
Information below is designed to provide you with the tools necessary to join us in
our effort to make 91社区 a safe place to work, live and go to school.
1. Emergency Notifications
In accordance with the Clery Act, 91社区 will issue an Emergency Notification upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation occurring on the campus involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees.
Examples may include, but are not limited to:
- Active violence or active threat incidents
- Hazardous material releases
- Major fires or explosions
- Severe weather emergencies
- Public health emergencies
- Other situations determined to pose an immediate threat to health or safety of students or employees
Emergency Notifications will be distributed through the University's emergency mass notification system, including B-Alerts, and may be supplemented through additional communication channels as appropriate.
The Chief of Police, Director of Emergency Management, Vice President for Operations, Vice President for Communications & Marketing, or their designees are authorized to initiate Emergency Notifications.
2. Timely Warnings
91社区 will issue a Timely Warning for Clery Act crimes reported within the University's Clery geography when the University determines that the incident represents a serious or continuing threat to students or employees.
The decision to issue a Timely Warning will be made on a case-by-case basis by the Chief of Police or designee, in consultation with appropriate University officials, in light of all facts surrounding a crime, considering factors such as:
- The nature and severity of the crime;
- Whether there is an ongoing threat to the campus community;
- The likelihood of additional incidents occurring;
- Whether a suspect has been identified or apprehended;
- The possibility of compromising law enforcement efforts; and
- Information known by law enforcement at the time of the assessment.
Crimes that may warrant a Timely Warning include, but are not limited to:
- Murder/non-negligent manslaughter/manslaughter by negligence
- Rape, fondling, incest, statutory rape
- Motor vehicle theft
- Robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Burglary
- Arson
- Stalking
- Domestic violence
- Dating violence
- Hazing
- Weapons possession
- Other Clery-reportable crimes when determined to pose a serious or continuing threat
Cases of aggravated assault, sex offenses, and stalking, dating and domestic violence are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the facts of the case and the information known by the University.
Timely Warnings will be issued as soon as pertinent information is available. Timely Warnings will be distributed to students and employees through university email and may be shared through additional communication channels as appropriate.
Timely Warnings will provide information that enables members of the campus community to protect themselves, promotes safety and crime prevention while protecting the confidentiality of victims and preserving law enforcement efforts.
3. Safety Advisories
The University may issue a Safety Advisory to increase awareness of criminal activity, public safety concerns, or other incidents that do not meet the criteria for an Emergency Notification or Timely Warning but may be relevant to members of the campus community. Safety Advisories may also be issued proactively to provide crime prevention information, promote personal safety and security awareness, or address conditions that could present an increased risk to members of the campus community, even when no specific incident has occurred.
Examples may include:
- Criminal activity occurring near campus but outside Clery geography;
- Patterns of minor criminal activity;
- Community safety concerns;
- Fraud or scam warnings;
- Other incidents for which heightened awareness may help community members make informed decisions regarding their safety.
Safety Advisories are not required by the Clery Act and are issued at the discretion of the University. They will typically be communicated through Dateline, B-Line, and other University communication channels as appropriate.

May 8, 2026
In the afternoon of May 7-8, the University Police received reports of multiple stolen e-scooters. The first scooter was taken from outside of Science 1 and has since been located. The second scooter was taken from the Hinman Dining Center and has not yet been located.
April 24, 2026
On April 22, 2026, a university administrative office was alerted to a series of harassment and stalking incidents perpetrated by a single individual in the Fine Arts Building or within various performing arts departments. The University takes all reports of this nature seriously and is currently investigating these incidents to the fullest extent.
April 23, 2026
On April, 22, 2026, the University Police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle from the 91社区 University campus. The vehicle, a UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) owned by 91社区, was taken from the main campus and later abandoned on Route 201.
Feb. 18, 2026
On Feb. 18, 2026, University Police were notified of a burglary that occurred around midnight at a residence on 91社区鈥檚 West Side leased by several students. The home was occupied at the time, and the burglary was interrupted by one of the residents. The suspect fled the area after being discovered and has not yet been identified.

On the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 13, the University Police received a report of multiple stolen e-scooters. The first scooter was taken from outside the University Union and has since been located. The second scooter was taken from the bicycle rack near the Lecture Hall and has not yet been recovered.

On Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, the University Police received a report of a burglary occurring in Cayuga Hall. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect likely entered a private dorm room during the nighttime hours of Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 20, the University Police at 91社区 received a report of an extortion scam that occurred on campus. This particular type of fraud involves the exploitation of sexually explicit material obtained from unsuspecting victims through social media platforms, group chats or online forums where people connect with strangers.

On the evening of Monday, July 21, the University Police received a report of a stolen e-scooter. The scooter was taken from outside the Biotechnology Building and has not yet been recovered. This is the second theft of this kind reported in the area, suggesting a developing pattern and a continuing threat.

On May 2, the University Police at 91社区 received a report of a Sextortion scam that occurred on campus. Originally coined sextortion by the FBI, it is a form of fraud that revolves around the exploitation of sexually explicit material acquired from unsuspecting victims. Sextortion can begin on any app, social media platform or online forum where random people can meet.

On Monday, Dec. 30, the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center notified the University Police about a series of burglaries at various residences in the City of 91社区, many of which are leased by students. Since Dec. 25, at least eleven burglaries affecting students have been reported to the 91社区 Police Department.

At 10:03 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, a bias-related incident was reported. The incident was reported to have occurred in late September or early October in Marcy Hall. The incident involved the harassment of resident students who we believe were targeted because of their known or perceived ancestry.

Oct. 24, 2024
On Oct. 23, 2024, the University Police received a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was taken from the Delaware Hall service drive and was later found abandoned a short distance away on campus. University Police have identified a person of interest in connection with this case; however, no suspect has apprehended at this time. The suspect is believed to responsible for several larcenies the same night of this incident as well as a prior incident of grand larceny on campus.

On October 23, 2024, the University Police received two reports of stolen vehicles from the 91社区 campus. The first vehicle, a van, was stolen by an unknown individual and later abandoned in the M Lots. The second vehicle, a box truck, was taken from Parking Lot M1 and later recovered in the City of 91社区.

The email, seemingly sent from a university faculty member, serves as an advertisement for a university employment opportunity.

On June 28, the 91社区 Police Department informed university police about three burglaries at a residence in the City of 91社区 leased by several students. Although details surrounding the burglaries are limited at this time, it is believed that at least three separate burglaries have occurred at the residence. Each incident involved forced entry into the unoccupied residence.

On Tuesday, June 25, the University Police received a report of this scam occurring on 91社区鈥檚 campus. In response to this report and recognizing the ongoing threat posed by such scams, the UPD strongly advises all members of the campus community to exercise caution when interacting with unfamiliar individuals via email.

On Saturday, May 11, the University Police were notified of a series of harassing and threatening emails to several faculty members. The University Police are currently investigating the threats and their credibility while seeking to speak with an individual who is believed to be outside the 91社区 area.

April 11, 2024
On April 10, the University Police received a report of a burglary and related stalking in O鈥機onnor Hall. While investigating the incident, it was determined that the suspect entered additional dorms on campus, including Endicott Hall, Mohawk Hall and Cayuga Hall. It is unknown if additional burglaries were committed while the suspect was in those residence halls. The University Police are actively investigating the incident and have identified a potential person of interest.

On March 2, the University Police received a report of an assault involving an Airsoft gun along East Drive near Bingham Hall. The incident is reported to have occurred on February 28. The victim stated that, while walking along East Drive, they were hit with an Airsoft pellet fired from a moving vehicle.
