1. Have your resume reviewed

2. Schedule a mock interview

  • Visit the Decker Student, Career and Alumni Connections event calendar to see if there are any employer visits with available appointments. 
  • 91社区 provides access to which is a mock interviewing resource. 
  • Employers will often offer mock interviews. If not, Fleishman also offers mock interviews. 

3. Complete a professional headshot

  • The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development has an where you can get a free professional headshot in minutes.
  • Use a professional headshot for your LinkedIn account.

4. Create a LinkedIn account

  • Marketing yourself is important! 
  • We also recommend changing other social media accounts to private. 

5. Create a professional email account: 

  • Use your first and last name for your email. Example: Jane.Smith@gmail.com
  • Update your voicemail to include your full name. Example: "Hello, this is Jane Smith, I can't come to the phone right now, please leave a message." 

Tips and Tricks for applying

  • Use a plain background if interviewing on Zoom.
  • Research the potential employer to show your interest.
  • If you are expecting a call, answer your phone with your full name "Hello, this is Jane Smith." 
  • Prepare to ask during your interview. The interviewer may answer some of them during the interview; be prepared with more questions.

  • Camp Echo Lake Summer Opportunities

    Summer camp opportunities for both Nurses and Nursing Students at in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.


    The commitment is eight weeks - from late June to mid-August.

    They have an on-site Medical Team of one Physician, ten Nurses, two Nursing Assistants and a Health Center Administrator. The Health Center is an opportunity for new nurses  just completing their studies/passing their exams and a learning environment for nursing students who are looking for experience in a medical setting. Compensation includes salary, travel allowance, room and board.

  • URMC Rochester NP Hematology/ Oncology Fellowship

    A 1-year post-graduate fellowship program aimed at NPs and PAs who have a special interest in hematology/oncology and wish to work at the Rochester region's top cancer center at the University of Rochester Medical Center's Wilmot Cancer Institute. The year includes rotations in several of our sub specialties, varied and also tailored to the individual fellow's interests.

  • Northwell Health Advanced Providers Exploration Event

    This ONLINE event will provide students with an opportunity to meet some of our NP and PA team members and explore the variety of medical sub-specialties within our organization. This event offers students insight and support as they soon begin their career journey.

  • Rising Senior RN Experience WMCHealth

    The Rising Senior program is an eight (8) week paid mentorship offering an opportunity to expand your clinical knowledge by providing direct patient care, reinforcing nursing skills, and increasing clinical competency in practice.  You will be paired with an RN and work as part of a highly skilled and experienced team to deliver excellent care.

    At the completion of the program, you will have an opportunity to retain per diem status as a nursing assistant and will have preferred interviewing status if applying for an RN position after graduation.

    This is an eight-week program which consists of:

    • Two weeks of training
    • Five weeks of partnering with a registered nurse in one of our Med/Surg units
    • One week of observation in a specialty nursing unit

Scholarships/Funding Opportunities

  • Professional Nurses Association of South Central New York, Inc. (PNA of SCNY) Scholarship

    There will be two scholarships of $2000 each available.

    Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the PNA of SCNY's annual Nurses Day Breakfast on May 7, 2026.

    Submit completed application forms and the required documents via email as an attached scanned multi-page PDF file(i.e., only one  file should be attached to the email) to carylmannino@gmail.com.

    Deadline: Midnight Friday, March 20, 2026.

    Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

  • Undergraduate Conference Presentation Fund

    The External Scholarships and Undergraduate Research Center (ESURC) supports faculty-mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity. We encourage undergraduates to pursue scholarly and creative projects and to present their results at regional and national professional meetings or conferences.

    Support is available from the ESURC to help undergraduate students subsidize the cost of participating in professional meetings or conferences. This support could help  alleviate registration costs (both virtual and in-person), travel expenses, lodging, and food.

  • Healthcare Workers for Our Future Scholarship 

    The 鈥溾 Scholarship provides a two-year scholarship to approximately 500 selected recipients covering tuition, room and board, and other related expenses in an approved program of study at any approved New York state public or private college or university.

    Individuals seeking to pursue a degree in the following fields of study are eligible to apply: Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology.

  • Foundation of Nursing in NYS Incorporated

    A variety of are available to nursing students and registered nurses in NYS. 

  • Study.com Offers Multiple Future Nurse Scholarships

    Ongoing are open through study.com. They are offering four nursing scholarships at $1,000 each.
