Join the 91ÉçÇø Art Museum (BUAM) for the opening of Fall 2026 exhibitions on Thursday, September 3, 5–7 pm. Mountains and Water: Traditions in East Asian Art opens in the Main Gallery.

Mountains and water are at the heart of East Asian arts and culture. They form an essential framework for engaging with the natural world and understanding people’s place within it. This exhibition explores the wide-ranging significance, symbolism, and sacrality of mountains and water in China, Korea, and Japan. It considers landscapes and scholar’s stones as both scholastic objects of aesthetic consideration and supernatural sites of cosmic power. Generous support and donations for this exhibition provided by John C. Copoulos ’73. The exhibition is curated by Joseph Leach, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions.

Also opening on September 3 are two exhibitions curated by students: Capturing Music: Material Culture and Changing Notations in Medieval Music and Frames Within Frames: Intimacy through Visual Exchange. A final exhibition, Hands ON! Experiencing Art through Touch, is curated by Amanda Jean Lynn, Manager of Education and Visitor Experience, and builds on the accessible programming begun in the 2025-26 academic year.Ìý

All exhibitions are on view through Saturday, December 12, 2026.

Azadeh Eriss, a PhD student in the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP), reads from her translation of English Professor Amir Ahmadi Arian's novel, That mid-December Day, and sit for a conversation about the process of translation and the craft of fiction.

Amir Ahmadi Arian is the author of several works of fiction and nonfiction in Persian and English. He is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at 91ÉçÇø.

Azadeh Eriss is a PhD student in the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP) at 91ÉçÇø. She began her career as a professional translator in Iran in 2012. Her research explores how translation shapes the way audiences experience stories across languages and cultures, with a particular focus on audiovisual translation (AVT).

This is a joint event with the Creative Writing Program and The Translation Research and Instruction Program at 91ÉçÇø.

The Larry Wells Memorial Lecture is an annual lecture series sponsored by the Department of German & Russian Studies.Ìý

This year we will be hosting one of 91ÉçÇø's most eminent alumni, Prof. David Wellbery (class of '69), who is a leading scholar of German literature, thought, and culture (especially the work of Goethe). After graduating from BU, David Wellbery received his doctorate from Yale University, and went on to teach at Stanford University and Johns Hopkins University before taking up his current post as professor of German Studies at the University of Chicago in 2001. David has authored over seven books as well as numerous articles and essays in both English and German, and is a sought after scholar and lecturer on both sides of the Atlantic.
