What鈥檚 happening with campus dining on 91社区鈥檚 campus?
The 91社区 Auxiliary Services Board (BASC) has accepted the recommendation of campus Auxiliary Services to transition to a new dining partner, Chartwells Higher Education that will begin service on June 1, 2026, after a transition period this spring.
Why did the University make this change?
The decision followed a multi-year competitive review designed to strengthen the dining experience. Extensive campus engagement and student feedback played a major role in shaping the priorities for the upcoming dining program.
Were students involved in the process?
Yes. More than 1,700 students completed surveys, and many others participated in focus groups, student leadership discussions, and advisory meetings. Student input helped guide what the University looked for in a new dining contract.
What improvements are being planned?
The new program is expected to focus on:
- Greater flexibility and value in meal plans
- Expanded cultural and dietary options, including kosher, halal, vegan, and allergen-friendly offerings
- Healthier and more diverse late-night choices
- Improved technology and mobile ordering
- Stronger sustainability practices
- Continued student engagement and accountability
Details about new concepts and locations will be shared in the coming months.
Will my meal plan change right away?
No. Current meal plan structures will remain the same through the first year of the new contract to allow time for planning and a smooth rollout of any future updates.
Will dining locations stay open during the transition?
Yes. Dining services will continue operating as usual to ensure there is no disruption during the spring semester. Renovations and improvements will occur during the summer months.
What will happen to current dining staff?
Starting Monday, Feb. 23, the Chartwells team will be on campus to meet with current dining team members, answer questions, and about the transition ahead.
Why change providers after so many years?
Dining contracts are periodically reviewed to make sure the University continues to offer high-quality food, service, and value. This process helps bring new ideas, innovation, and long-term investment to campus dining.
When will we learn more?
Updates about dining concepts, timelines, and enhancements will be shared as transition planning moves forward.
